ABSTRACT
Advancement in internet and information technology brought an enormous intensification in network size and its respective data. Every day the challenge to identify the attack is increasing in networks as well as for sensitive data. Even though intrusion detection systems play a vital role in identifying and deterring intruders, the fundamental requirements for networks and data, such as confidentiality, integrity, and availability, still face many challenges in providing accurate results while minimizing false alarms. Here is where artificial intelligence techniques, such as machine learning and deep learning algorithms implemented in network, can successfully identify intrusions, and they show progress in this field. In this chapter, ML and DL algorithms are discussed with different applications in the role of artificial intelligence in the intrusion detection system. When comparing ML with DL algorithms, the DL-based algorithm provides a better solution in terms of feature extraction and prompt fitting to the model. The major challenge faced by this system is its complexity in terms of processing power and storage facilities. By addressing these requirements, it fills the current need in the intrusion detection system.
