ABSTRACT

Sustainable agriculture is an integration of economically viable, environmentally compatible and socially acceptable approaches with enhanced ecosystem services. Cover crops, in different names or forms, have long been used for their ability to provide organic matter, reduce soil erosion and nutrient leaching, fix atmospheric nitrogen (N) and improve soil health. Moreover, they play an important role in mitigating the effects of climate change on agriculture. The greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs) are generally released from accelerated human activities, like deforestation, fossil fuel use, industrial production, traditional agriculture and natural processes, like animal and plant respiration. The natural sinks and sources of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) are in balance with one other and the concentration of this gas is in the safe level and quite steady in the atmosphere. The Nitrous Oxides (N2O) is one of the most important GHGs in the earth’s atmosphere. Fluorinated gases are a family of man-made gases used in a range of industrial applications.
