ABSTRACT

The impact of digital technology can be seen across different sectors, including the education sector. Since the last decade, the higher education landscape in India has been undergoing a transformation by creating widespread access to affordable, high-quality university education and reaching out to students in different locations from diverse backgrounds. The economic development of a nation is linked with its higher education and research opportunities that can meet the requirements of a skilled workforce for the economy. Digital technology can be used for curriculum innovation as well as for updating teaching-learning methods, which can lead to better learning outcomes and would match the global requirements. In this setting, the teaching professionals along with the students play a significant role. This study has been done on the basis of face to face interview with 90 University teaching professionals (Professor, Associate Professor, and Assistant Professor) across different universities in West Bengal and it seeks to understand the changing work-life of a teaching professional by focusing on issues as diverse as innovation in pedagogy, changes in teaching-learning techniques and application of Information 178and Communications Technology (ICT) and the simultaneous changes brought about in the role of a teacher from being a teacher to becoming a mentor as well as the perception of the faculties regarding the nature of teaching job.
