ABSTRACT

Augmented competition and customer expectations have negatively impacted supply chain performances, operational costs, and the environment. Risk to safety, quality, traceability, and transparency has increased many folds. Being an extension for cloud, fog computing technology provides supports to supply chain operations with efficient resource utilization, enhanced performances, reduces risks, identification, bandwidth utilization, tracking, energy consumption, and above all real-time monitoring. Otherwise, the heterogeneity of available platforms and technologies makes all these supports difficult. Innovative fog, IoT, and cloud computing infuse novel approaches to assimilate, store, and share transactional data through collaboration and interoperability among stakeholders. Data centers available with cloud communicate and process with stored data at the edge. Fog computing supports real-time data processing with the help of time-sensitive applications. The research proposes an approach for improving supply chain performance based on fog computing, IoT technology, and cloud computing and mitigating latency issues.
