ABSTRACT

Researchers conducted field measurements of particulate mass concentration using a TSI DustTrak DRX Aerosol Monitor with purpose to evaluate suitability of this instrument for long-term monitoring of DPM at the polymetallic mine operating in Kazakhstan. The measurements were performed at the site where a Caterpillar R2900 loader loaded and hauled ore from a mine stope to an ore pass. The DustTrak measurements showed that average PM1 concentrations were 0.188 mg/m³. The average particle size as measured by Aerasense NanoMonitor was 56 nm. Results of these field measurements will be used to expand the sampling program to various locations in the mine. Study results are relevant to developing cost-effective DPM control strategies, improving ventilation, and protect mineworkers’ health.
