ABSTRACT
Studying status of coalbed methane (CBM) industry has important practical significance to future development. In this study, CBM industrial development status in China was reviewed and analyzed thoroughly from supporting policies, geological resource exploration, production and utilization technology, and “co-production of CBM, shale gas and tight gas”, aiming to further improve the sound stable development of the industry. Research results demonstrate that CBM industry achieves a rapid development in China recently. However, the CBM industry is still facing with many challenges, such as unreasonable policy mechanism, inadequate supports, over concentrated exploration range, poor exploitation effects of deep and low-rank coals, mismatching of gas extraction systems, etc. Therefore, it is suggested that CBM industry in China shall strengthen policy support, pay high attentions to surface gas extraction, match extraction systems reasonably, allocate mining rights of CBM reasonably, and introduces in abundant professional talents to accelerate “co-production of CBM, shale gas and tight gas”.
