ABSTRACT

According to previous research, using workshop teaching methods in the design field can generate different benefits, such as enhancing creativity, knowledge, social interaction, and overall design performance. This research is based on the theme of “eco-smart life design,” established a week-long international seminar, and finally tried to produce product or service design. In other words, the purpose of this study is to explore the effects of learning and interaction between students of different cultural backgrounds by using design studios as teaching models. According to the literature review, learning effects include objective performance evaluation and subjective learning achievements. In order to achieve the research purpose, the research used quantitative and qualitative methods. First, this study uses questionnaire surveys and expert discussions to assess students' learning outcomes. Second, the study used qualitative interviews to collect data about student interaction status. After the investigation, the research results were analyzed using descriptive statistics, difference tests and content analysis. The results show that students generally take a positive attitude towards international workshops as a good teaching model and are willing to participate in similar activities again. Regarding student interactions, I have received much interesting feedback about lifestyle habits, work attitudes and seminar content. Finally, the study suggests that follow-up studies can be conducted in different countries. By using the same teaching structure for more research, replacing local teaching resources, and comparing the learning and interactive effects of students from different national backgrounds and local resources, it is expected that the benefits and operational details of the design seminar can be further confirmed.
