ABSTRACT

In voting, the majority wins over the minority. Consensus allows for finding a solution that each member of the group supports or, at least, considers acceptable. Comparing the consensus as a method of decision-making with voting, it should be noted that voting initially generates competition, and does not consider the possibility of compromise because the minority submits to the majority opinion, and disturbs cohesion of a society or a group. The formation of coalitions is a natural process due to the formation of the interests of different groups. At simulation of a consensus under the condition of coalitions, the issue of the influence exerted by various factors upon the average number of negotiations performed until the consensus was built, was considered in the previous sections. The main problems of reaching consensus in a social group are analyzed using a mathematical model of consensus based on regular Markov chains, and consensus modeling.
