Neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease (AD), are a growing health concern worldwide. Alzheimer’s disease is the most common cause of dementia in the elderly. Dementia in AD is associated with a progressive disability during the entire course of illness and death occurring within five to twelve years of the disease onset. Hericium erinaceus is a well-known culinary and medicinal mushroom in Japan and China. Nerve Growth Factor have been found to play an important role in the differentiation, survival, and maintenance of neuronal cells. Ganoderma lucidum, or Lingzhi, is an oriental medicinal mushroom that has a long history of promoting health and longevity in countries like China, Japan, and other Asian countries. Antrodia camphorata is a medicinal mushroom used as a traditional medicine in Taiwan for various health-related conditions.
