ABSTRACT

The optical links have been most extensively used transmission medium for wired and wireless based communication systems because of its extremely high bandwidth and low loss features. To utilize the maximum out of available bandwidth along with minimum transmission losses, various types of Laser sources are proposed and employed by researchers and engineers. Vertical cavity surface emitting Lasers (VCSEL) are among the few promising light sources. In this paper, a simulative investigation of InGaAs and AlGaAs based VCSEL is discussed. It is reported that AlGaAs provides BER of 10-40 & Q factor of 16 which is significantly better compared to InGaAs.
