ABSTRACT

Fixed offshore structures are an ideal ground for Reliability-Based Methods employment due to the growing requirements for its remaining life extension, function modification throughout its life and the current trend for Predictive Maintenance (PDM). This chapter starts by offering a synthesized introduction to fixed offshore structures, its design and analysis, fatigue and fracture mechanics formulae, ocean environment basics, as well as, a background for Structural Health Monitoring, Remaining Life Assessment, Inspection Planning and PDM. A second part deepens the employment of Reliability-Based Methods. For such an endeavor, a specially developed for fixed offshore structures comprehensive method is explained, including its preliminary, simplified and calibration analyses, followed by Bayesian Inference and Monte Carlo sampling applications. Finally, the focus is set on the paramount importance of Reliability-Based Methods for Maintenance Approaches within Additive Manufacturing and Industry 4.0 context, as well as tools for Energy Transition.
