ABSTRACT

Resilient structure and infrastructure play a crucial role in the preparedness, mitigation activities, and optimal allocation of resources after a disruptive event. Responding to the need for a robust knowledge of research practices of resilience and the heuristic application of theories, this chapter presents a holistic framework for the analysis of resilience for the design of structures and infrastructure. The key constructs of resilience are discussed, focusing on its assessment and quantification. The chapter is organized into three parts, where the first part includes the concept of resilience and its quantification, different methods and frameworks are illustrated in the second part. In the third part, various models are presented, and the associated complexities and limitations in their application are evaluated. The chapter should impart the fundamental understanding and practical implication of resilience phenomena to readers, providing a comprehensive account of concepts and approaches to advance research focusing on disaster resilience.
