ABSTRACT

Data is the most valuable asset in all spheres of human endeavors, although it is represented in different formats as the discipline entails. Every aspect of information technology revolves around data. The science of investigating, predictively analyzing, and statistically enumerating using machine computations and deep learning algorithms on data which may be transiting or at resident across massive storage volumes and parallel processing platforms to gain useful insight in enhancing data security points to the connection between data science and big data.

Security on big data is fundamentally necessary, else the validity and meaningful usability of the specific data will become futile. Any breach in data integrity is a compromise on whatever the data store represents. Data science techniques keep evolving to enhance the security implementation on protecting big data sets by engaging artificial intelligence for modeling possible vulnerabilities, machine learning in ascertaining authorized data operations and trace suspicious activities, pattern recognition, predictive analysis, and automated preemptive defense and response algorithms.

This chapter proposes data science involvement in enhancing the security of big data.
