ABSTRACT

Microgrids are designed smartly in small-scale electrical distribution systems which integrate energy storage solutions, distributed energy sources, and smart buildings as energy sinks. The overall reliability, energy efficiency, and occupant comfort inside the building of the microgrid are enhanced with the aid of smart buildings. Smart buildings are directed by the commercial requirement for functionality, reduced costs, sustainable buildings, and sharing of data. Overcurrent protection issues of the smart building are bidirectional fault currents, and blinding of protection, dynamics in the level of fault currents, and false tripping in the microgrid are addressed. Wireless networks are widely used in smart buildings; therefore, security issues also arise in smart buildings. Integrity, confidentiality, buildings, available information of organization, and other elements of business are the security issues of smart building in the microgrid. This paper presents a mini-review of protection issues and strategies, and security issues of smart buildings in the microgrid.
