ABSTRACT

The building which is integrated to be intelligent, and automated with smart technology helps end users to be aware of Energy utilization. It also aids in enhancing overall building energy performance effectively and efficiently in all possible aspects. Shortly, it is a trend of using Internet of things (IoT) devices to incorporate artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), or deep learning (DL) approaches, for which a number of special meters are required to be attached in a building with a capability of handling and recording details on their specified tasks. These special meters – “smart meters” – will go through a self-learning process from their past experiences and suggest suitable measures for real-time complexities with the system, thereby making smart building eco-friendly to consumers. This alternative approach of constructing buildings with smart technology helps customers in attaining sustainable power supply, healthy indoor air, surrounding temperature/humidity, occupancy management, and water level in rooftop blocks, and also in telecommunication, life safety, and facility management systems. For attaining better knowledge of smart buildings, here the energy demand of a higher educational institution – Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai – is studied with the help of various smart energy meters erected. Then, the exact energy demand pattern of the institution with past records on consumption is visualized and suggests a suitable strategy for maintaining a promising energy profile from this work.
