ABSTRACT

Many professionals in the User Experience (UX) world have had negative experiences with recruiters, often for jobs they are not remotely interested in or that have nothing to do with their UX skill set even with an abundance of UX-specific recruitment agencies popping up. There are several types of recruiters and recruiting firms out there: some place only full-time positions, some serve companies looking only for part-time or short-term contracts, and some fill both types of roles. The variety of payment structures and employment types can influence how recruiters behave and, therefore, a job seeker’s experiences in interacting with them. Successful UX recruiters become knowledgeable in the UX skills and career pathways for which they need to hire and work to build relationships within the UX space. An internal recruiter should know their company inside and out, have a close relationship with the hiring manager, and know the other members of the team for which they’re recruiting.
