ABSTRACT

The success of any company that offers services to others—be it a large consulting firm or a smaller boutique agency—hinges on having projects to do for clients. While some companies will have sales representatives, who are responsible for selling a company’s services, other companies will rely on those in leadership positions, be it user experience-specific leadership roles or more general project or program management roles. Speaking personally as a freelancer and microbusiness owner, the biggest benefit to bringing on these temporary staff comes from their existing expertise and likely ability to jump in and hit the ground running. Also, speaking as someone who is fairly industry agnostic—jumping from project to project across industries—to a large extent, understanding an industry involves learning.
