ABSTRACT

With the increasing emphasis on sustainability and environment friendliness in last decade, use of natural fibers as promising reinforcing materials for different polymer matrix to develop polymer composites are a preferable choice due to their distinct advantages. To make these natural fibers more effective so that they can strongly interlock with polymer matrix, different chemical treatment methodologies are suggested. These chemical treatment methodologies involve the use of toxic chemicals so the need of environmentally friendly methods like biological and physical are needed. This article presents a review of environmentally benign surface treatment methodologies, their mechanism, and the positive effect on the performance of natural fibers and their prepared composites.
