ABSTRACT

As the world is battling the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic, more than 190 countries have already shut down educational facilities nationally, affecting almost 80 percent of students worldwide. This is unprecedented; the world has never seen so many students out of school/college. It is natural to feel sad, worried, uncertain, fearful, or angry in a situation like this. However, at the same time, we need to keep students studying and remaining motivated in times of instability. COVID-19 forced the transition to online teaching and learning, and a new thought rushed to experiment with online instruction. This health crisis provides us with a whole new range of problems and tactics to keep battling current and future crises to ensure that students get the best education possible. Now is the time to think about solutions by recognizing the significant educational and socio-economic impacts that arise when educational facilities are closed for extended periods. This chapter provides an overview of India’s online education ecosystem, barriers, and factors that support online education in India. The chapter mainly provides insights into India’s readiness for online education in the current coronavirus crisis and beyond and suggests the critical practices for successful online learning and the role of cloud computing in enabling online education.
