ABSTRACT

Biochar is a carbon-rich substance produced by thermochemically extracting carbon from a variety of biomass feedstock and organic waste materials. Biochar’s capability to eliminate organic and inorganic contaminants is determined by its surface area, pore size distribution, size of the molecules, and the surface functional groups to be expelled, whereas the physical structure and its surface properties are determined by the raw material composition and the preparation procedure. Biochar has a variety of distinctive features that make it a cost- effective and environmentally sustainable substance for removing a variety of pollutants. There is a demand for using biochar obtained from waste biomass feedstock in several areas to resolve the significant environmental challenges.
