ABSTRACT

Demand of goods is increasing rapidly with the increase in the world population, which makes it a challenge to supply quality and quantity of goods to people on time merely through human work. Certain limitations of human work, like working hours, atmosphere of the workplace, accuracy, and efficiency, can be overcome through machines. They can work round the clock and in hazardous conditions in a more efficient way. Today most of the work in industries is automated like manufacturing and assembly of automobiles; even driverless cars are ready to run on the road. Similarly, in a power plant, circuit breakers and isolators are being controlled from control panels using programmable logic controller (PLC) and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA). Along with the manufacturing of assets, management of outdated and inefficient assets is also the need of the hour; PLC can be used for this in waste management. In this chapter we represent glimpses of industrial automation through simple programming on the PLC and run it on the PETRA kit.
