ABSTRACT

This chapter contains information regarding applications of commercial thermoplastic fluoropolymers. Thermoplastic fluoropolymers (fluoroplastics) include polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), modified PTFE, FEP, PFA, MFA, ETFE, PVDF, PCTFE, ECTFE, THV Fluoroplastic, EFEP, and polyvinyl fluoride (PVF). A special subgroup consists of perfluoropolymers (fully fluorinated polymers), which include PTFE, modified PTFE, FEP, PFA, and MFA. These fluoroplastics exhibit a higher service temperature and chemical resistance than the others. Depending on the structure and resulting properties, the individual polymers have specific applications as described in this chapter. It should be noted here that PVF is not available commercially as a resin but only as a variety of films. A section on the application of PVF summarizes the application of commercial PVF films.
