ABSTRACT

Processing and the applications of fluoropolymer aqueous systems are the subject of this chapter. This applies to both aqueous dispersions and fluorocarbon elastomer latexes. In general, waterborne fluoropolymer systems are handled and processed in a similar fashion as other organic coatings. Because of the nature of the base polymer, they differ in their processing behavior. The processing and application dispersions of PTFE, modified PTFE, PTFE micropowders, PFA, MFA, PVDF, THV Fluoroplastic, and fluorocarbon latexes are covered in this chapter as well as their health and safety aspects and disposal. The main processes and equipment used in this technology include impregnation, fabric coating, and film casting. Other processes include the coating of different substrates, such as metals, plastics, and composites by spraying and dipping and cross-linking (chemically or by ionizing radiation (gamma rays or an electron beam)).
