ABSTRACT

Traditional herbal medicine is gaining more popularity and is still widely practiced. This has attracted the attention of many researchers and encouraged them to screen plants of medicinal interest to study their bioactive compounds. The medicinal and aromatic plants have been an integral part of our daily life for thousands of years. Modern research continues to discover the health benefits of plants while illustrating the importance of preserving our ecosystem. The medicinal and aromatic plants are an affordable and culturally appropriate source of primary health care for more than 80% of the world’s population. Coriander (Coriandrum sativum L.) is an annual herb that belongs to the umbel family Umbelliferae/Apiaceae. Coriandrum sativum is the most important among the herbs used as ingredients in daily human food. It contains many antioxidants and health-improving ingredients that can defend human body cells from diseases. Also, it is susceptible to abiotic environmental stress conditions involving drought and heat.
