ABSTRACT

The success of strengthening character values is supported by the message of learning messages to students. Learning media plays a role in whether or not the learning message reaches students. One of the mediums that can be used to convey character messages is storybooks. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of storybooks on the love of homeland character trait. This research is a quasi-experimental type with a pre-test post-test control group design. The subjects of this study were fourth-grade elementary school students. Data was collected using tests. The research instrument was a questionnaire on the scale of the love of homeland characters. The hypothesis test used is Wilcoxon. The results showed that storybooks’ use was influential in the love of homeland character. There is a difference between groups of students who use storybooks and groups of students who do not use storybooks. The difference obtained from the significance test was 0.022, which means less than 0.05. From this it can be concluded that there is a difference between the pre-test and post-test results in the experimental class group.
