ABSTRACT

This study aims to identify the profile of Pre-Service Elementary School (ES) Teacher problem solving and critical thinking skills at the Department of Primary School Teacher Education, Yogyakarta State University. It focuses on developing lesson plans to elaborate problem skills through the teaching-learning process in science instruction. Through this study, students are taught to be creative to utilize their problem solving and critical thinking skills on creating a learning scenario which is encourage the pupil on observing and describing, questioning and analyzing, exploring and creating, showing & telling, and reflecting. A qualitative study is conducted to determine their profile in all process of developing lessons plan. Data were gathered through observation, in depth interview and documentation of the product. Many students perform that their skills on developing steps of problems-solving process are extended. More activities in the introductory section, main section, concluding section, and application indicate that all of activities involved problem-solving steps. It can be inferred that ES teacher students use their critical thinking to create those sections of lesson plan.
