ABSTRACT

The rise of youth social deviance indicates the weak idealism of the nation’s character. The effort to create excellent and smart citizens is the civic education mission. Citizenship competence in psychosocial character education is reflected in knowledge, skills, determination, attitudes, and commitments that can be summarized as civic virtue. This study aims to determine factors supporting civic virtue implementation in character education in schools according to literature. This study uses a library research method by examining the previous research results on civic virtue in character education in schools. The results and discussion show that the implementation of civic virtue in schools can run effectively with the support of professional teachers’ skills, students’ attitudes and commitments, school policies, school culture, and values of local wisdom philosophy based on Pancasila. In conclusion, character education in schools according to the 2013 curriculum can be strengthened by civic virtue along with the development in the era of Society 5.0.
