ABSTRACT

Over the past few years, graphene has attracted serious attention across the globe owing to the unique applications in diverse fields. The physiochemical characteristics such as large surface area, mechanical strength, electronic conductivity, extraordinary high thermal tensile strength, high carrier mobility, optical transparency and high elasticity has generated research and novel discoveries in transistors, water purification technologies, solar cells, sensors, super capacitors, and batteries. Though high quality graphene production and applications have spread widely across the globe, the environmental, health and toxicity remains a major concern. With the ever-increasing demands for a sustainable future, improvement in the quality of graphene production through a green approach will ensure emergence of top-notch, non-toxic, sustainable graphene. This chapter focuses on the synthesis, characterization and applications of graphene.
