ABSTRACT

The increasing growth in the human population and in consistent capacity development has led to the emergence of new food-processing industries. This offers varieties of options to consumers when it comes to products. Despite the emergence of these various industries, in terms of meeting the needs/demands of the consumers, food industries still lack the ability to meet these needs using the manual or conventional processing and packaging methods. This has led to increased use of automation in the various food industries to improve the output. Application of artificial intelligence, robotics, smart/intelligent packaging and Self-Optimising-Clean-In-Place (SOCIP), among others, has today increased the turnout of products, improved packaging time, and boosted consumer confidence when it comes to health concerns regarding packaged foods.
