ABSTRACT

The bending moments along the model pile and the acceleration at the top of the model pile were measured during the shake table test of the model pile in saturated sand. And bending moments along the model pile are calculated by the method of the beam on nonlinear Winkler foundation and degradation p-y curves at the moments of 0.04s, 0.08s, 0.16s after the sand liquefied. Test and calculated bending moments are compared. Results show that the lateral resistance of the model pile degrades 90% if the relative density of sand strata ⩽ 40% after the sand liquefied and 75% if the relative density of sand strata ⩾ after the sand liquefied.
