ABSTRACT

The Cement-flyash-gravel (CFG) piles are widely used in the soft ground improvement in the highway construction of China. In most practical cases, the load transfer mechanism and design calculation theory are conducted empirically, which results in higher cost compared with other columns. This study is focused on the dynamic method in determining the bearing capacity and shaft resistance of CFG. The test site is selected in the Lianyungang city, China, where the soft marine clay is well known. Three CFG piles are specially prepared and complemented by high strain dynamic test, in which the bearing capacities are obtained and unit resistance along the pile are presented according to the stress wave theory. After the dynamic test, the static load tests are performed on the same location. Finally, the CFG pile design parameters are recommended.
