ABSTRACT

In this paper, the resonance mechanism and conditions of train-bridge system are discussed theoretically both in lateral and vertical directions. The railway bridge resonance can be excited by: the periodically loading of moving load series of the wheel-axle weights, the centrifugal forces and lateral winds of moving trains; the periodical actions of train vehicles excited by rail irregularities and hunting movements; the loading rates of moving load series of vehicles. The vehicle resonance can be induced by the periodical actions of regularly arranged bridge spans and their deflections. The resonant train speeds for the bridge system are deduced. The resonant vibration characteristics of some typical railway bridges subjected to moving trains are investigated. The numerical and experimental results show that the proposed method may help to well predict the resonance vibrations of the train-bridge system.
