ABSTRACT

The rail transit produces uncomfortable ground vibrations to the neighborhood along the railway. Especially in urban areas, while the railway improvement on convenience and transportation efficiency progresses, it is a critical issue to reduce environmental vibrations. The vibration reduction method was developed by using the plastic vibration isolators and the concrete vibration reflector. The experimental studies have been carried out and confirmed that the vibration acceleration level decreased by approximately 12 dB near the isolator after the isolator and reflector construction. Furthermore, it decreased by 9 dB at a point 5 m away from the isolator, and decreased by 4dB at a point 10 m away from the isolator. The method thus proved to be much more effective for reducing vibration than conventional remedial methods. The method should therefore be applied to actual projects and the ease of application and the vibration reduction effect should be verified.
