ABSTRACT

Environmental vibrations are increasingly drawing attention in modern society. Protecting built-in areas from exposures to detrimental effects is desired. Herein, an attempt has been made to use an actuator forcing system to subdue the manmade ground vibrations as induced traffic and machine operation. Theoretically, it is demonstrated that another loading for the source loading has a good possibility to cancel out the transmitting vibration by the wave interferences. The validation of such phenomenon is proved by the field test. The key factor of generating tranquilized zone behind the actuator system is to adjust the phase between the two source force systems.
