ABSTRACT

The Hanshin Expressway network in the Kansai Metropolitan Area linking the major cities of Osaka, Kobe and Kyoto currently extends 233.8 km in total length and is traveled by about 890,000 vehicles on average per day. This rapid increase of the traffic volume in urban areas, however, has caused amplification tendency of ground vibration when resonance happens between a large-sized vehicle and viaducts. An impact that is made when large-sized vehicles pass uneven expansion joint is one of main factors of vibration from viaducts. "Joint-less" is expected from a maintenance management side as well as environmental measures side very much. This report gives an outline by measurement results about characteristic change of traffic vibration with enforcement of three "Joint-less" methods. According to the measurement result, the vibration of the neighboring ground is reduced to 91-98% in all-pass (AP) by the three "Joint-less" methods.
