ABSTRACT

In order to accumulate measurements of house vibration, WG on Measurement Technique of Environmental Vibration in AIJ and GOTO Laboratory in Hosei University jointly measured vibrations of running trains in a wooden house. Each maximum value of running root-mean-square values of vibration accelerations in 1/3 octave bands during a train passing was obtained. Results were the following. 1) Vertical ground vibration was larger than horizontal ground vibrations. 2) Vertical vibration at the center of the surveyed floor had a maximum of 63 Hz and increased with train velocity. 3) Vibration propagating from the foundation to the floor amplified. According to floor vibration modes determined using modal analysis, the gain can be attributed to the modes restrained by the joists which floor posts support. 4) We applied "Guidelines for the evaluation of habitability to building vibration" (AIJ, 2004) to the measurements and considered usage notes.
