ABSTRACT

Decisions are required now if we are to meet the deadlines set in the Water Framework Directive implementation timetable. There is a huge amount of research that can inform these decisions. One of the biggest challenges, therefore, is to capture this information, so that it's conclusions can be used during implementation. One of the responses in the UK to this challenge has been the UK-ADAPT project, UK-ADAPT ('Ά Diffuse Agricultural Pollution Toolkit') aims to support implementation of diffuse pollution policy by providing a reference point for relevant projects. The project is based around a fully searchable web-based database of UK projects on diffuse water pollution from agriculture. UK-ADAPT has therefore provided a useful analysis of gaps in knowledge, and it could be an approach that should be adopted Europe-wide.
