ABSTRACT

Environmental education and awareness are major concerns in the development of environmental policies. This chapter presents the requisites for an environmental exploratory system based on analysis of the nature of environmental problems and its information and manipulation requirements. The main features of environmental problems are discussed in the following sections, after which an analysis of hypermedia systems and their role in cognition processes is presented. However, to better understand the design of such a multimedia environmental exploratory system, one should analyze its requisites according to the previously presented nature of environmental problems. The TABLIER has several environmental exploration features that will allow the user to perform his or her exploratory journey, including navigation and orientation facilities, visualization and simulation tools, and an environmental glossary. The navigation module is made up of several complementary navigation facilities that will help users to make their way through the exploration process.
