ABSTRACT

The problem of whether or not to use consultants in assisting a company’s commercial development activity has always been a thorny one. Consulting services are available for every phase of industrial development; they cover not only those functions associated with commercial development but also research, process development, plant design, location, and construction. Consultants are frequently individuals working alone or with a small staff; in some cases they may be fairly large organizations with many dePartments and specialized facilities. Naturally the larger consulting organizations are equipped to render more complete services than the individual consultant. Very importantly, consultants can be retained for short-term problems without incurring the obligations or expense involved in setting up a new dePartment in the company or employing additional personnel. A consultant often works with several firms in different fields of activity.
