ABSTRACT

The need for commercial development as a function, however, has become even greater than in the past. The growing complexity of the future will require that commercial development personnel be knowledgeable in the areas of distribution, operation research, marketing global markets, among others. Warranty disclaimers and privity of contract will afford the defendant less protection. Legislative and regulatory influences deriving from ecological considerations and consumer interests will also make life more challenging. Consumer interest will become even more important. The acceptance of innovation and change as business style, the need to maintain high levels of production and high rates of growth in industry, the complex and competitive background against which crucial business decisions must be made, all create a climate in which the work of commercial development will become even more critical than in the past. Companies have increasingly been attempting to maintain growth in sales and profits by acquiring other companies in related, as well as nonrelated, fields.
