ABSTRACT

Five species of the genus Apodemus live in Europe, two of which, Apodemus mi-crops and A. mystacinus, are rare species with a restricted distribution and consequently will not further be considered here. A. syivaticus, A. flavicollis, and A. agrarius are economically important species, as they deprive seeds from woods or fields, respectively. A. syivaticus is the most abundant species 1 living in various habitats all over Europe, while A. agrarius reaches its border of distribution towards western Europe.
