ABSTRACT

A shortage of adequate information on the size of wild turkey populations is due primarily to the time and expense involved in conducting a census and the difficulties of obtaining accurate inventories due to the wildness of the birds and their wide-ranging habits. Most turkey hunters keep a careful watch on flocks of wild turkeys in the areas in which they hunt, as do landowners upon whose land the turkeys range. Record on maps the following data: location of all known flocks of wild turkeys, number of birds in each flock, if known, and the date the flock was observed. To progress as efficiently as possible, the game warden in each county was notified by mail as to the purpose of the survey and requested to furnish a list of persons in his county who might supply the desired information.
