ABSTRACT

The woodchuck (Marmota monax) ranges from northern Ontario to South Carolina and west to the prairie states. It thrives in agricultural land where it makes burrows in banks or under trees and feeds in the fields. Woodchucks are active at midday in spring and fall, but are active at morning and evening in summer. In the north they hibernate from September to March, but in the south they hibernate sporadically in December and January. 1
