ABSTRACT

The thermal diffusivity was measured for a directionally-solidified IN-718 superalloy and a single-crystal superalloy. In addition, the specific heat and the solidus and liquidus temperatures were measured for IN-718. The measurements were conducted as a function of temperature in the solid, liquid and mushy regions. Multiple transitions were detected in both materials and, in the case of IN-718, confirmed by cross-correlation of the thermal diffusivity and specific heat data. Additionally, comparison of the thermal diffusivity curves revealed considerable differences in the two materials, especially in the mushy region.
