ABSTRACT

The mathematical model of nonlinear dynamic curving locomotive was developed to simulate the curve negotiation of rail vehicle in a range of operation conditions in this paper. Three nonlinearities of creep forces,wheel-rail geometry and suspension are included in the model; the various studies have been made for the different parameters matching and the track conditions. The results indicated that under some conditions,the dynamic behaviors may dominate the steady-state curving performance,the higher conicity of “worn” wheel profiles and flexible primary suspension may have superior dynamic curving performance and benefit the curving of rail vehicle;and especially, the frictional suspension element will be used as less as possible in the rail vehicle operating in sharp curve.

The result from this work showed that the mathematical model developed can predict the situations in dynamic curving of rail vehicle for a range of operating conditions, and can be used to determine the influence of parameter variations on rail vehicle curving performance and to provide theoretical basis for modifying old rail vehicles and for designing of new one.
