ABSTRACT

This paper presents comparison between stand tests and theoretical calculations for high speed stability and curving performance of the proposed self-steering trucks with independently rotating wheels equipped with trailing axle only. The effects of the longitudinal stiffness on the truck performance was examined by numerical simulations and experiments with test stand. The proposed truck which is designed to get improved stability and curving ability from the theoretical study has predicted performance in experiments. Simulation results agreed with experimental measurements. It was proved that the soft stiffness on the leading axle achieved compatibility between high stability and steering ability.
