ABSTRACT

The validation strategy applied to the new simulation programme E-Train is described and the results of the validation process are presented. E-Train is a simulation tool for the examination of the behaviour of trains regarding to longitudinal dynamics. Its main purpose is the calculation of longitudinal forces in freight trains during brake application. Therefore mathematical models of the train and the air brake are used. Due to the fact that security issues were addressed with the programme validation was mandatory. The programme passed the validation with good results by the end of 1998. It is currently in use at the former state railways of France an of Germany. It will be available to others in the second half of 1999.
