ABSTRACT
The method of construction of embankments on deep deposits of soils is based on the utilization of the increase in shear strength due to consolidation. In this paper a reliable and useful method is proposed. The determination of stress paths is based on the basic principles of critical state theory. The design procedure allows for adjustments and modifications in accordance with field measurements during the construction.
