ABSTRACT
This paper discusses Earthquake Hazard Zonation in view of the existing concerns related to earthquake hazard mitigation. Identification of the issues influencing the preparation of earthquake hazard zonation maps within the present state of the art is taken up. The need of making the basic information the basis of zonation maps is emphasized. It is recognized that a seismic hazard zonation map is only an aide in the assessment of earthquake hazard, rather than being an instrument to measure it.
