ABSTRACT

In this paper the methodology proposed by the Technical Committee for Earthquake Geotechnical Engineering, TC4, for the liquefaction potential assessment is applied to the Portuguese territory and to the town of Setúbal. An approach is made to three zoning levels proposed by this committee, which are associated to different scales of detail. In a first stage a zoning is carried out of the liquefaction potential on a territorial level (level 1 zoning); in a second stage a zoning of liquefaction potential is performed on a regional level (level 2 zoning). For the last case a numerical modelling is used, and a quantification of local effects is performed for the assessment of liquefaction potential on a site level (level 3 zoning).
